In the same town is Black Sheep Brewery. This is a brewery that a brother of the Theakston’s brewery family started when he left Theakson’s because he didn’t like what was going on at the time. It has a lot of different equipment it. The building was originally a brewery, then a maltster, then a brewery again. Multiple brew kits. 50-100 BBL capacity. Three I think. They also have Yorkshire squares to ferment in.The building is very old industrial. It was a little confusing, but they had a lot of old cool stuff still in use and the brewmaster was our guide, so what’s not to like?
First, we drink and eat lunch.
Here are some mash tuns.
Here’s an old boil kettle

And the hits just keep on coming. In another part of the building there are these open fermentors. Click to enlarge.
Then we get to the Yorkshire Square fermentors. Never heard of these, but there aren’t many of them left in existence.
This poster shines some light on the Yorkshire Squares.
